Mastercam X
Certification Program Overview
The
goal of the Certification program is not only to produce
skilled programmers, but to give certification holders the
ability to adapt their talents to the ever-changing
technologies in the manufacturing world. The Mastercam X
Certification Program confirms your students skills with an
industrially driven national test.
A Certification Advisory Committee, along with the help
of several school advisory committees, defined the skills
necessary for Mastercam X Certification. These committees
also approved the Mastercam Handbook Curriculum as the first
recommended Certification curriculum. This curriculum
consists of 80 to 100 hours of instruction and is used to
impart skills that enable programmers to pass a practical
Certification Test.
Mastercam’s X Certification Program is important in both
the Educational and Industrial markets. Originally meant to
create a benchmark for schools, many programmers see
Certification as a way to validate the skills they know.
This makes it easier for them to get hired, and makes it
easier for a shop to know that incoming programmers have
what it takes.
The Certification
Process
-
The applicant takes the written NOCTI prerequisite (or
equivalent) and must receive a score of 75% or better or
has 2 years prior Mastercam programming experience.
-
The applicant then enrolls and completes a Certification
Class. This class must be based on committee approved
curriculum and conducted by a Mastercam X Certified
Industrial Instructor.
-
The applicant must then take and pass the Practical
Test. This test takes about 5-6 hours and requires that
a part be designed, programmed, and machined. The part
and the grade sheets need to be evaluated by a
"Mastercam X Certified Industrial Instructor" or they
can be sent directly to
Mike
Freimann at the CNC Educational office. These are
the ONLY two ways to receive your
Certification Card.
-
All successfully completed parts will be archived by CNC
as proof of Certification.

Basic Mastercam
Mill Version X Certification
3 Days / $1,500.00
This class is intended for experienced Mastercam users who
have completed Introduction to Mastercam, Mastercam Mill 1,
and have practical shop experience. This class expands on
that knowledge and helps prepare the applicant to complete
the Certification Practical Test in the 5-6 hours allocated.
This class does not teach a specific part, since the test
parts can change. This class sharpens the applicants skills
to help ensure Certification Testing success.
Basic Mastercam
Mill Version X Certification Test
1 Days / $500.00
The test involves drawing a part from a blueprint in
Mastercam. The part is then programmed and coded for
machining. The part is then set up and machined. All test
parts require multiple set ups and at least 6 tools. To
receive a Certification Card the following criteria must be
met:
1- The part must be modeled within a 2 hour time limit.
2- The part must be programmed within a 2
1/2 hour time limit.
3- The part must have a run time of no more than 15 minutes.
4- The part must be completely finished within the final 2
hour time limit.
5- The part must be within tolerances as specified on the
print.
6- Any broken tools during the machining process will be
considered failing.
(Note you can retest at a later date. Standard testing fees
apply.)
